Sherif Ghali, then CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs, backed President Mahama’s decision to separate the Youth Ministry from Sports, saying it shows that youth development is now a priority. He endorsed George Opare Addo, the minister-designate, and urged Parliament to confirm him quickly so the ministry could start work on pressing youth issues.

Ghali also pressed for the Ghana Youth Federation, which the National Youth Authority Act of 2016 requires but which had still not been set up eight years later, to be established urgently. He called for ministry programmes that foster youth entrepreneurship and innovation, pledged the Chamber’s help in designing them, and asked for broad stakeholder engagement so the programmes stay inclusive and youth-centred. The Chamber says it has supported more than 4,200 young entrepreneurs.
