Sherif Ghali has ended ten years as CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs (GCYE), the organisation he founded in 2015 with 15 entrepreneurs. It now has more than 19,000 members. Agnes Anyawen succeeds him as CEO.
The report credits his tenure with services to more than 4,000 entrepreneurs, funding for over 200 youth-led businesses and more than GHS 10 million mobilised for youth programmes. The initiatives it names include the Young Entrepreneurs and Startups Support Fund (YESS Fund), the Young Female Entrepreneurs Programme (YoFEP), the Students Entrepreneurs Programme (STEP) and yecSpace, which opened in 2024 as Ghana’s first dedicated co-working hub for young entrepreneurs. It also notes advocacy that contributed to tax exemptions for young business owners.
Ghali described the move as knowing when to leave the stage, and stressed the importance of building institutions that outlive their founders. He continues as President of the Ghana Youth Federation and will keep working on the wider entrepreneurship ecosystem.
