The Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs and the European Union announced closer collaboration to support youth and women in business, through the Youth and Women Business Policy Environment Reform project. The aim is an environment where young entrepreneurs and women-led enterprises can compete and grow, with capacity building, mentorship and financial support for groups that are often left out.
An EU programme officer named limited access to funding, technical expertise and markets as the main barriers facing young entrepreneurs. Sherif Ghali, then CEO of the Chamber, pointed to a decade of work building entrepreneurs’ skills and said the Chamber had launched Ghana’s first youth-focused entrepreneurship fund the previous year, backed by GHS 3 million in sponsorship. He urged government to put more of the national budget into local and youth-led development, and the EU reaffirmed its commitment to working with local partners.
